In other words some just don't care as long as they are protected from all of that.

Also since a large deal of the population are also farmers and usually earn very little, it's sometimes hard for them to make ends meet. The majority of their lives have been spent working out in the sun all day and are just content to earn at least a little bit to be able to feed their families. They might give what's going on some thought, but again, their first priority is to try to make sure their families survive through the hard times.

What Los Tigres Del Norte have done is try to make the people aware of what is going on and at least convince them to unite and try take action as is described by, "amidst all the farmers we have to tie her down."

The gov. obviously wants the majority to keep on staying ignorant so that they don't pose a threat to the major wealth that the ones in charge are gaining through corruption. If the people stay ignorant and are not encouraged to take action, then those meager few who do try to speak out and unite the people wont have much luck and therefore the way things are run will stay the same. By banning the song, the risks opposition against the system are greatly lowered.

Re: Los Tigres Del Norte – La Granja

you are wrong ese 1

Re: Los Tigres Del Norte – La Granja

When can I buy you coffee? I really appreciate your translation and your explanation of the meaning for this song. Thanks so much.

I love "Los Tigres" and am just getting into their music. Unfortunately, I know very little Spanish (I am going to live somewhere where they speak it and learn it, though -- if anything, to enjoy such good music). I know even less about the politics social/cultural issues (even though I live on the border and in a neighborhood with many "immigrants" and should probably know more). Still, I wanted to point out one thing about your interpretation...

"El Conejo" -- The rabbit. Yes, I think he could be a drug dealer. Maybe even "the narco-state" in a really loose interpretation. But, if you think about, if you think about what rabbits do to real farms and why farmers have to deal with them... the rabbit is the CONSUMER of the narco-state's drugs.

In society, and especially on a farm, the CONSUMER is only appreciated if they "pay" for the food or drugs or whatever. Imagine the rabbit is an addict who turned to crime to pay for their next fix... or even just a casual user who had paid for the vegetables/drugs, but got busted or caught just by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'm not sure if I am explaining it right, but I hope that it makes some sense. I really like the song and I think the video is adds a lot of clarity to what it's about. Your translation (and post) is great because it allows people like me, with a passing familiarity with these issues, to grasp what the song is about and then I might notice something about it that I couldn't have before (like the Rabbit thing).

Thanks for translating it. It is much appreciated.

Re: Los Tigres Del Norte – La Granja

la perra for those who do not know, is a phrase, and its been around since the Mexican Revolution. I believe this song is about Narcotrafic. It’s strange but this song has not been banned from the radios, I just hear it a couple of days ago. Furthermore, this song has nothing to do with PRI.
P.D. Corridos are not ballads; it’s more about stories of Mexico that came to be songs after the Revolution of 1910. There is a subdivision of Corridos, which are tha Narco Corridos, this are songs that are entirely related to narcotrafic in Mexico.

Re: Los Tigres Del Norte – La Granja

I would like to correct some of what has been stated so far.

La Perra refers to the narco cartels, and more specifically to the Sinaloa cartel.

The song explains the stupidity of the Mexican government, and more specifically Calderon for directly confronting the cartels. The cartels in Mexico have for years tried to keep a low profile, and remain in the shadows. Everyone knew they were there but they were "amarrados, " it was more convenient to not flex their muscles, but once they were let loose there is no stopping them until only one is left.

In the meantime it's the granjero (the Mexican laborers) that are caught in the cross fire, trapped by the wall that was erected on the border to keep them in. The fox is Vicente Fox who came to "romper los platos" which means mess things up. He made the mistake of declaring war against the drug cartels. However, he is well known to have complicity with the Sinaloa Cartel. He is also rumored to have helped El Chapo Guzman escape from prison to "armar un gran relajo". All of this meddling by Fox caused the cartels to come out of the shadows, since they were being taken apart by the Fox government.

El Gavilan refers to El Guerro Palma, who's airplane crash landed and he was arrested by the military, traveling away from the site in a large police convoy. This was a major point in the fighting between cartels, as his capture was blamed on rivals.

Re: Los Tigres Del Norte – La Granja

This song is great and if it doesnt get the message across then i do not know what does. I dont know why the Mexican Govt is banning the song its not like the mexican people dont know what goes on day to day in their country. Hopefully they find a solution to this quickly because its not fair that the people are the ones suffering from an unstable corrupt govt.

Re: Los Tigres Del Norte – La Granja

I would agree with your version of the song. The details I would add are as follows:

o There is a narco leader called La Perra and this might also be an allusion to him, but also to the government. My teacher and I both agreed that the dog is the alliance between the government and the narcos. Sometimes more the government and some times more the narcos.

o An example of this would be at the end of the song where the farmer is bitten by the dog. "[A]unque el no este acuerdo" for my teacher and me represented people falling into drug the drug trade ( by being bitten by the dog ( narcos). They are on the border ( where drug are notorious ) and it is already understood that the farmer is at the border because he is desperate and needs to cross to find a job, and this is a natural progression here in Mexico..

o Also, of course the fox is Fox, but it is more important than just that. With the presidency of Fox the 70 some years of PRI rule was broken, which was a seeming good thing, but now ( as reflected in the election in July) PRI is once again a valid, democratic party and is free to resume power once again.

o Additionally, los puerquitos are not only the PANista. They are all politicians in Mexico. Almost all of them benefit financially from being in power, while the people continue to live in poverty.

Re: Los Tigres Del Norte – La Granja

For some reason the video will not display so check it out @ http://www.youtube.com/watc...
